EQUIPMENT:
1) Required equipment: 2 technical ice tools, fruit boots, or
boots with crampons, harness, and helmet.
2) No non-standard sized ice tools, leashes, or heel spurs.
Judges reserve the right to inspect equipment at anytime, and
disqualify competitors for any infraction. Please consult a judge
before the competition if you have any questions about the legality
of your equipment!!!
3) Bibs will be pinned on the back of the competitor.
COMPETITION:
1) The competition will take place on an approximately 60 ft
tall manmade wall. There will be 2 identical routes
(route A/ route B), 8 female climbers and 18 male climbers will
compete in a head to head format. Each competitor will climb
against their matched competitor and then switch routes and compet
again. The combined high point total will determine who
advances to next round. Combined lowest time will break any
ties.
2) There will be one judge per route with an additional
head judge. Judges will be tracking both time and high point.
3) There will be a male-female super-final between the tope
male and female competitors, run in identical format to the
above
4) No tripping, shoving or horseplay will be tolerated and
any athlete participating in foul play will be pulled from
the route and disqualified.
5) Crampon and Ice tool swinging, and kick locations will
only be allowed within designated areas which will be marked. A
penalty will be assessed for kicking outside the designated
6) The men's field will have a second chance qualifier. The
climber with the best highpoint total from the round of 18 that
does not advance, will advance to face the top qualifier from the
round of 18 in the round of 10. This process will be repeated
through each round until we are left with 4 climbers. The winners
of this semi-final round will then face off in the finals, while
the losers will compete for 3rd place.
Additional Rules and Information
DIRECTIONS TO CLIMBING WALL:
Park in either the Vail Village parking structure or Lionshead
parking structure. Upon exiting the structure, head east to
the eastern base area on Vail Mountain- Golden Peak. The climbing
wall is in the Golden Peak base area near the Golden Peak
Lodge.
ATHLETE ELIGIBILITY:
Competitors will be chosen from a invite application process. The
competition is open to athletes regardless of state and/or country
of residency. Competitors who are under the age of 18 must
register with a parent or legal guardian. Competitors must be able
to attend all scheduled events. Athletes will be required to
provide all their own equipment. Further, athletes must abide
by all applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations
during their participation in the Winter Teva Mountain Games®.
PARTICIPATION:
Athletes agree to be bound by these Official Rules and all
decisions of Organizers. Organizers reserve the right to disqualify
any persons found tampering with, or otherwise abusing, any aspect
of the competition as solely determined by Organizers.
DISPUTE RESOLUTION:
Organizers will appoint judges and the decision of those judges
will be final. There will be no review of scoring / timing
even with the presence of TV cameras. Disputes with
Organizers and/or appointed judges will result in disqualification
of that athlete.
RESERVATION OF RIGHTS:
Organizers reserve the right to disqualify any athlete for any
reason, including, without limitation, acting in an unsafe,
unsportsmanlike or disruptive manner and/or with intent to
intimidate, threaten or harass, or harm another person. All
decisions with respect to the disqualification of an athlete shall
be made by Organizers and/or appointed judges. Failure to
comply with any term or condition of these Official Rules may
result in an athlete's disqualification and the forfeiture of
his/her interest in any prize. Organizers reserve the right to
amend these Official Rules at any time in its sole discretion, and
athletes shall have no recourse for any such changes or for any
failure (whether inadvertent or otherwise) by Organizers to follow
the stated rules. In the event that the competition is
canceled prior to the completion of the final event, no prizes will
be awarded. Any refunds are at the organizer's
discretion. Athletes will not be otherwise compensated
for any costs or expenses associated with their participation in
the competition.
ORGANIZERS:
The Winter Teva Mountain Games® will be organized and produced by
staff and contractors hired from and by the Vail Valley
Foundation. The decisions of Organizers regarding the
selection and elimination of athletes, the selection of finalists
and winners, and the production and administration of Winter Teva
Mountain Games® related events, and all other aspects of the event,
shall be final and binding in all respects. Organizers will not be
responsible for typographical, printing or other inadvertent errors
in these Official Rules or in other materials relating to the
event.
