While both genders experience problems finding the perfect shorts, it tends to be a little more difficult for women. The Terry Touring Bike Short for women is the best overall.

The padded bike shorts offered by Terry are decent and there’s not too much about them that’s disappointing. The triple blended fabric provides moisture wicking while giving your bottom a nice, cushiony feel.

The padding comprises what they call “flex air chamois.” It provides multi-density protection which is rather comfortable and holds up well under vigorous use all day long. The only problem with it is that the waistline is far too high and chafing can occur. Also, shipping seems to take longer than it should.

Pros:

  • Moisture wicking fabric with a smartphone pocket
  • Quality padding with a comfortable fit
  • Durable, strong and reliable materials

Cons:

  • Chafing tends to occur
  • Poor shipping experience
  • Waistline is too high

If you only take your bike out on occasions, then the cycling shorts by Baleaf will be optimal.

Baleaf’s 3D padded pocket cycling shorts for both men and women comprise a blend of spandex and nylon. These are great for riding because of its lightweight and breathable material that’s yet satisfying and sturdy.

There are anti-slip leg grips made of silicone to prevent the shorts from rolling up. The bottom chamois comprises gel, which is cooling and protective. But the chamois shifts around and the shorts tend to be thick in all the wrong places.

The women’s bike shorts come in three different colors featuring a smartphone pocket. These are blue, gray or black. Otherwise, there are several other colors if you don’t care about the pocket. The men’s shorts feature two side pockets. All are either black or blue but there are several seam colors.

Pros:

  • Lightweight, breathable fabric
  • Cooling 3D gel pad
  • Tons of colors to pick from

Cons:

  • Chamois shifts and can cause injury during use
  • Material and padding is thick in awkward spots
  • Less expensive translates to a cheaper product

Aero Tech Pro offers bike shorts to both men and women. For the money, they’re really good but there are some problems too.

The men’s and women’s padded bike shorts by Aero Tech Pro are decent for the value. The women’s comprises 100% polyester and comes in three different shades of blue along with black. The men’s is a blend of spandex and nylon in only one color: black.

What’s nice about them is that they don’t have a seam inside the leg. So, there’s no chafing or tearing on your inner thighs. But, the sizing is rather small. So, it can be a little too snug around the thighs with a low-lying waistline.

The padded foam chamois comes in three layers, which is very pleasant to wear. So, it hugs the glutes and hips. But the material comprising the padding is less than desirable quality. Also, there’s grips to prevent rolling, but it gets sticky when warm.

Pros:

  • No seam in the leg means no chafing
  • Hugs the bottom and hips comfortably
  • Breathable material

Cons:

  • Sizing runs small
  • Grips are sticky when warm against the skin
  • Padding material seems to be cheap

  • Infused silicone gripper leg band for a clean, smooth fit

If you’re looking for marathon-style bike shorts with high performance, Sugoi is reliable. They are a longtime trusted name and people have relied on their products for years.

These padded bike shorts from Sugoi are great for men and women alike. They comprise 100% nylon and the engineering is decent. They call the padding “Formula FX Chamois,” which entails poron foam right at the sit bone. The design of the padding also helps take pressure off when riding while providing snugness.

These shorts have great ventilation and flexibility in all the right spots without any seams inside the thigh. You wouldn’t know you had them on if it wasn’t for the padding.

Having said all that, though, seams in other areas tend to dig into the skin. After a lengthy bike ride, it’s incredibly painful. Plus, they run really small and even one size bigger means they won’t fit correctly. If you’ve ever owned a pair of Sugoi’s bike shorts, there is a noticeable downturn in overall quality.

Pros:

  • Well-designed chamois padding
  • Holds up well for long periods of time
  • Great ventilation in all the right places

Cons:

  • Seams dig into the skin and are painful
  • Sizes run really small, especially in the crotch
  • Rushed construction

Bib shorts are a great alternative to standard ones. Pearl Izumi has a plus size collection that’s reliable, sturdy and very practical.

Pearl Izumi provides padded bike shorts in bib style. There are shoulder straps, which mean they’ll stay up and not roll down at the waist. However, depending on where you hold weight, various areas of the bib shorts can give a “sausage” appearance. This is particularly true of the thighs.

The men’s offers a tank top style whereas the women’s has straps that connect at the chest. They comprise a blend of nylon, polyester and elastane. The design and fabric lends itself to keeping you warm or cool when you need to be.

These are very suitable shorts but they are a little tight. A size bigger might be okay, but you’ll lose security in other places. The padding from previous Sugoi versions, however, seem to be better than these modern ones. Regardless, it’s soft and cozy.

Pros:

  • Soft, cozy and breathable
  • Quality padding design and engineering
  • Good for temperature control

Cons:

  • A little too tight, giving a “sausage” appearance
  • Previous versions had better padding

Final Verdict

While this is for only for women, they are the best from the whole list. Their design is solid with quality fabric and considerate construction. The padding is great too. Even though they do ride a little high up the waist, they’re super comfortable and can take a beating.

We’re deeply regretful if this doesn’t help the men, but women should definitely get these shorts. Hands down, they’re the most reliable.
