With its short-lap format, success in a winter mountain-bike criterium requires cyclists to hold their own on a fast, snowy course that covers the lower portions of Vail Mountain. Wide tires will be the tool of choice for riders to navigate the varied terrain in this spectator-friendly, one-of-a-kind event.

MTB Open Class - Men and Women
Snow Bike Open Class - Men and Women

MTB Category - 3" or smaller tires
Fat Tire Category - 3.7" or bigger tires

START TIMES:
Wave starts begin at 5:00pm in Golden Peak.  MTB wave will start first then Snow Bike Wave

PRIZES:

Men & Women equal prize purse in each category.

MTB Category:
1st - $250
2nd - $150
3rd - $100

Fat Tire Category:
1st - $750
2nd - $500
3rd - $250

All athletes, even those pre-registering on-line must sign liability and release waivers when checking in to receive their number.  We advise all athletes check in for their event the day prior to race day.  Event Registration is in the Community Room at the Southwest corner of the Lionshead Parking Structure. Please visit the Winter Teva Mountain Games website for registration hours.

All athletes must be present at check in to receive their number.  Numbers will NOT be given to friends, coaches or family members.

EVENT RULES

EQUIPMENT:
Tire Sizes: MTB Category - Maximum Tire Size of 3 Inches
Snow Bike Category - Minimum Tire Size of 3.7 Inches (larger may be used)

Stud/Spike: Studs are permitted on tires regardless of category Spike are prohibited on tires regardless of category (no sharp protruding objects)

Bike/Frames: MTB Category - Any MTB bike may be used.  Cyclo Cross bikes may be used but are not recommended for this course.

Lights:  Headlamps or equivalent are required for this event.

Helmets: Helmets are required for this event.

COMPETITION:
1. Start, 5:00 PM SHARP at the base of Golden Peak.  Wave start with MTB Wave then followed by Snow Bike Wave.  Men and Women will start together in their respective categories.

2. Pre-Riding the course will be available starting at 4:00pm.  You will not be able to access the last portion of the course on the main race arena for Pre-Ride due to a conflicting event.  The last portion of the course on the main race arena will only be available during the race.

3. There will be a pre-race meeting at 4:45pm at the start line.  All riders are required to attend.

4. We ask that athletes please seed themselves accordingly at their category. No tripping, shoving or horseplay will be tolerated and any athlete participating in foul play will be pulled from the course and disqualified.

5. Course will be marked with reflective arrows, flashing lights and tape sections.

6. Awards will take place following the competition at 6:45pm.

COURSE:
1. Lap Length = 1K (0.62mi)
2. Elevation Gain Per Lap = 170 Feet
3. Number of Laps = 8 laps

The course is entirely on snow.  Course conditions will depend entirely on weather conditions leading up to the event and the day of the event.  The course is normally on hard packed groomed sections of the mountain.  However, if it is snowing day of or leading up to the event the course conditions could vary.

All riders must complete all 8 laps or they will receive a DNF for the event.  Chip timing will be used for this event and will record lap counts for timing purposes.  All rider are responsible counting their own laps.  The organizer reserves the right to change or adjust lap totals dependent on snow conditions.

General Rules and Information

ATHLETE ELIGIBILITY: 
The competition is open to all interested athletes regardless of state and/or country of residency.  Competitors who are under the age of 18 must register with a parent or legal guardian. Competitors must be able to attend all scheduled events.  Athletes will be required to provide all their own equipment.  Further, athletes must abide by all applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations during their participation in the Winter Teva Mountain Games®.

PARTICIPATION:
Athletes agree to be bound by these Official Rules and all decisions of Organizers. Organizers reserve the right to disqualify any persons found tampering with, or otherwise abusing, any aspect of the competition as solely determined by Organizers.

DISPUTE RESOLUTION: 
Organizers will appoint judges and the decision of those judges will be final.  There will be no review of scoring / timing even with the presence of TV cameras.  Disputes with Organizers and/or appointed judges will result in disqualification of that athlete.

RESERVATION OF RIGHTS:
Organizers reserve the right to disqualify any athlete for any reason, including, without limitation, acting in an unsafe, unsportsmanlike or disruptive manner and/or with intent to intimidate, threaten or harass, or harm another person.  All decisions with respect to the disqualification of an athlete shall be made by Organizers and/or appointed judges.  Failure to comply with any term or condition of these Official Rules may result in an athlete's disqualification and the forfeiture of his/her interest in any prize. Organizers reserve the right to amend these Official Rules at any time in its sole discretion, and athletes shall have no recourse for any such changes or for any failure (whether inadvertent or otherwise) by Organizers to follow the stated rules.  In the event that the competition is canceled prior to the completion of the final event, no prizes will be awarded.  Any refunds are at the organizer's discretion.   Athletes will not be otherwise compensated for any costs or expenses associated with their participation in the competition.

ORGANIZERS:
The Winter Teva Mountain Games® will be organized and produced by staff and contractors hired from and by the Vail Valley Foundation.  The decisions of Organizers regarding the selection and elimination of athletes, the selection of finalists and winners, and the production and administration of Winter Teva Mountain Games® related events, and all other aspects of the event, shall be final and binding in all respects. Organizers will not be responsible for typographical, printing or other inadvertent errors in these Official Rules or in other materials relating to the event.
