Foot launched aviation will be presented at the Teva games this year for the first time. Up to 50 Paraglider Pilots will be competing in a Cross Country Race that will be taking them in and around the Vail Valley. Multiple turn points will be used for this Cross Country Race to goal. Pilots will launch either in Vail, or down valley near Avon or Wolcott. They will then gain altitude using thermals, then race around multiple turn points with the finish being in Ford Park. The length of the course can vary from 15 to 50 miles, and the pilot’s air time can be from hour and a half to 4 hours. The first pilot to fly around the course, and reach the finish, will win the day. Points are then scored for all the pilots based on their finish time,and the pilot with the most cumulative points wins the competition. This exciting extreme sport will certainly bring a fusion of color to the skies.
