Foot launched aviation will be presented at the 2010 Teva Mountain Games. This year’s “fly-in” will see up to 50 Paragliding Pilots (Hang Gliders welcome too!) descend upon the Vail Valley for 3 days showcasing their sport in the skies above Vail, Colorado.
Depending on weather conditions pilots will launch from any number of sites geographically spanning from Vail to Wolcott, 20 miles west. Using thermals Pilots will increase and sustain the needed altitude to cover the long distances necessary to land in Vail. During flight, pilots will have the option to attempt various tasks accomplished by tagging particular GPS coordinates along the way. The length of the course can vary from 15 to 50 miles, and the pilot’s air time can be from one hour to 4 hours. The landing zone will be near Golden Peak in the rugby/soccer fields on Vail Valley Drive. Spectators are encouraged to check out the pilots and there gear once on the ground.
This exciting extreme sport will certainly bring a fusion of color to the skies and only add to the spectacular lineup of weekend events.
