COSTA 2 FLY X-STREAM

Do you have what it takes to be the 2010 Teva Mountain Games Costa 2 Fly X-Stream Champion? To do so you will need to be able to cast accurately, huck for distance, and control nervousness you have never felt before while holding a fly rod. Oh yeah, you better be able to fish too! Both professional and amateur anglers are welcome. Competition will be head-to-head in various fly fishing events including a combination distance and accuracy challenge that will test the best of the best. Be one of the top twenty men’s qualifiers or top five women’s qualifiers and move to the big stage, with thousands watching, and cast again while trying to control your nerves. Once the top eight men and top two women have been crowned, throw casting out the window as it will be time to test angling skills on the waters of the Vail Valley. Test your ability not only against other anglers, but against the wild trout ready to pounce on your perfectly placed presentation. Oh yeah, here’s the catch, of all the fly patterns in the world, we’re only going to let you use two!

COSTA 2 FLY X-STREAM OVERVIEW:
The Teva Mountain Games Costa 2 Fly X-Stream Fishing Competition (“2 Fly X-Stream”) will start with casting. Each angler will attempt casts at targets for accuracy as well as a judged distance cast. The top twenty men and the top five women will then move to the bridge over Gore Creek itself and again cast for accuracy. The top ten men and the top two women will move on to the Finals! The Finals will consist of a timed float trip on a TBD river with two competitors per boat. Anglers will only be able to use two patterns. One pattern, two different sizes? One dry pattern, one dropper pattern? Finalists make this call. Total of six flies. Minimum, and maximum, of two patterns. Total points, based on fish count and size, will win the Grand Prize. There will also be prizes for the second and third place finishers. Another cash prize will be awarded to the angler, man or woman, who lands and releases the largest fish! A maximum of 80 anglers will compete in the casting qualifier, 25 make it to the semi-finals, and 10 make it to the boats.

TIMING:
Qualifying round of the casting competition will take approximately 3 hours. Semi Final round of the casting competition will take approximately 2 hours. Finalists will fish for three to four hours.
